My creative Journey to Dance Canvas 2025
This week I’ll be heading to Atlanta to meet the amazing dancers who will help bring my vision to life for Dance Canvas 2025! This is such a pivotal moment in my creative journey, and I can’t wait to dive in. In just a few days, I’ll meet my dancers for the very first time—yes, you read that right! I’ve been envisioning movements and themes inspired by my previous work When Ancestors Speak, but now it’s time to collaborate with new people, new bodies, and new personalities.Every day, I’ll spend a few hours in the studio exploring choreography, refining ideas, and discovering how these dancers connect with the themes of my piece. This is a time for openness, honesty, and respect as we shape something meaningful together.🌟 A Glimpse Into the Process
As I prepare, I’ve been sketching out concepts and gathering inspiration for this work. Below is a visual reflection of where my creative process is at this moment. It includes ideas around ancestral healing, traditions, and the interplay between past, present, and future.The themes of this piece are deeply rooted in honoring heritage and letting the voices of ancestors guide the journey. I can’t wait to see how the dancers’ unique energy will shape these ideas.
