Artist Statement
Through my choreography I explore the connections between cultures, traditions, and movements across the African Diaspora. I believe that no movement is our own, and I believe that my movement and movement stories are rooted within me, serving as a way for my ancestors to communicate with and through me.
I'm inspired by Modern, post-modern and contemporary dance training I've received, and I integrate codified techniques centered around Black dance traditions to create a visual representation of shared heritage within the African Diaspora.
Through my artistic practice, I aim to educate the audience on the cultural relevance, movement history, transitions, and meanings associated with African Diasporic cultural identities while honoring what makes us unique.
